Creating a new standard for racing games.

10 years have passed since “Gran Turismo” was first created in 1997. This has set the theme for the development of “Gran Turismo 5 Prologue”, which will be released in December 2007.

This title takes the fundamental elements that make up a racing game - modeling, physics simulation, and AI - to a new dimension. 16 cars racing, in full definition 1080p HD, at 60 fps. This is the new standard for racing games.

This new standard has also moved online. This title is a game that “continues to evolve even after you have bought it”, with online racing, communication, and content distribution. This is the answer to the re-imagining of how the future of online racing should be.

The evolution of the fundamental elements and the online function were turned into reality by the PLAYSTATION 3. With the creation of this new standard, this title is the prologue to the continued popularity of the “Gran Turismo” series throughout the globe for the next 10 years.

Driving. Turning. Stopping.
Physics simulation that lets you enjoy the unlimited realism.

Enjoy the details through the new in-car view.

What is “driving a car” in a racing game? It is the player controls, the specs of the car, and all aspects of the environment, from the shape of the course to the direction of the lighting, while continuously simulating the physics of these parts in real-time.

The combination of realism and playability is an eternal theme. Up to now, over 90% of customers have told us “it is difficult and sometimes hard to drive”, while the rest of the customers say “make it harder and make it more realistic”.

“Gran Turismo 5 Prologue” provides two modes that will satisfy even more customers: “Standard” which makes racing easy, and “Professional” which is as realistic as possible.

16 cars are able to race simultaneously.
Each car “thinks” as it drives. Advanced AI has changed the nature of race.

New AI and physics simulation made 16 car race possible.

The racing unfolds without losing track of any of the 16 cars. Although you probably think that this is normal, this also is a new standard for racing games.

In “Gran Turismo 5 Prologue”, there are competitor cars controlled by other players and competitor cars controlled by AI (artificial intelligence), and there are also cases where there is a mixture of both. Even if the competitor cars are AI, it is essential for the race that the competitor cars constantly vary their judgment by watching the situation around them, and aim to win by staying alert.

This creates a high-quality race every time, no matter which car you choose, nor whichever course you race, nor how many times you compete against whichever competitor cars. The evolution of the AI has created an evolution in race itself.
